UKNEE Seminar: Meeting carbon budgets - the need for a step change and the opportunity to use a mix of instruments
November 2009
The third UKNEE seminar of 2009 took place on 3rd November in room H102 of Connaught House at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

Jessica demonstrated her work modelling the consequences for investment in new and advanced abatement technologies when a mixed-instrument policy is employed. Adrian’s presentation provided a UK context for Jessica’s model by outlining the approach and recommendations of the first annual progress report of the Committee on Climate Change. Mallika Ishwaran, Deputy Director of Environment and Growth Economics at Defra, made a response to both speakers with reference to recent Defra/DECC (2009) work, which maintains that selecting the appropriate mix of instruments for UK climate change policy can deliver a more efficient and effective reduction in emission than any single instrument alone.
