Chelsea Thomson joined eftec as a researcher in late 2009. Her work has included a project pertaining to inshore fisheries for Defra and a project which applies an ecosystems services framework to estimate the economic value of the Forestry Commission estate.

We are looking to recruit an environmental economist to fill a Consultant position within our in-house team. Based in our London office, you will work in project teams with colleagues from eftec and partner organisations in the four areas above, taking individual responsibility for both technical and project management roles.
You must have a post-graduate degree in environmental economics or a related economics-discipline and have a sound understanding of the principles of economic analysis and econometrics. At least three years of economic analysis related work experience is preferable. A background in the application of economic valuation, cost-benefit analysis and interest in environmental policy is highly desirable.

UKNEE Seminar: Meeting carbon budgets - the need for a step change and the opportunity to use a mix of instruments

The third UKNEE seminar of 2009 will take place on 3rd November in room H102 of Connaught House at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
The guest speakers will be Adrian Gault, Chief Economist in the secretariat of the Committee on Climate Change and Jessica Coria, a Research Fellow at the Environmental Economic Unit, University of Gothenburg. Adrian will summarise the approach and recommenations of the first annual progress report of the Committee on Climate Change, while Jessica will speak about the unintended consequences of the use of multiple policy instruments.

Seminar: Green Growth: Rhetoric or Reality? Perspectives from Europe and Asia

The second UKNEE seminar of 2009 took place on 2nd July in room 2.06 of the New Academic Building at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
The guest speakers were Paul Steele of the United Nations Development Programme and Sam Fankhauser of LSE. They respectively presented an Asian and European perspective on the rhetoric and action towards green growth, looking at the focus on low-carbon growth and how that may affect other issues such as proper ecosystem management and social issues.
