For Coillte, Ireland, 2017: The overall aim of the project was to develop a corporate natural capital account for Coillte Forestry, a part of Coillte. The benefits covered in the initial account are timber, recreation and climate regulation (i.e. carbon sequestration). Over the last 30 years, Coillte has managed its estate with a firm focus on maximising the financial and social potential of its natural resources in a sustainable way. It is therefore an ideal organisation for pioneering the use of the CNCA framework in Ireland. The outcomes from the project will assist Coillte in improving its strategic decision-making and communicating its performance in balancing the delivery of benefits to people, nature and the economy. At the same time, they present an opportunity for Coillte to contribute substantially to the advancement of the CNCA methodology and the way in which natural capital is understood and managed.
