Duncan Royle

Duncan is eftec’s Natural Capital Accountant and has been working with eftec since 2014. He is a Chartered Global Management Accountant and has over twenty-five years’ experience in senior finance roles in the UK manufacturing and food industries, and prior to that in financial management consultancy.


In 2015 he was instrumental in the development of the framework and methodology for Corporate Natural Capital Accounting for the UK Natural Capital Committee. Since then, he has project managed the production of over 50 natural capital accounts, including the first full scale corporate natural capital account for Forestry England, over 30 major land estates, several UK water companies, and provided natural capital assessments for public open spaces strategies for many Local Authorities, historic gardens and parks. He has project managed several landscape scale natural capital assessments that have informed strategic decision making at landscape scale, including an Economic Assessment of the Somerset levels (2022-23), and a county wide assessment for Hampshire (2024).


More recently, his accounting work has been used to support clients in understanding and preparing to benefit from nature finance opportunities. This work includes preparation of business cases, investment prospectuses and strategic planning.


In addition to his accounting qualification, Duncan holds an MA in Environmental Management and Consulting from Lancaster University and an MEng in Electrical Engineering & Management from Imperial College, London.
