Ian Dickie FRSA, a Director of eftec, joined the core team in November 2007. He has 25 years’ experience as an applied environmental economist, and leads eftec’s work on natural capital.
Ian is a member of the Climate Change Adaptation Committee, an author of the Natural Capital Protocol, a technical author of the UNDP's Biodiversity Finance Guide (BIOFIN), and was technical editor of the BSI Nature Market Principles Flex701 Standard (published March 2025).
At eftec, Ian has directed natural capital accounts for over 50 organisations in the finance, transport, water, forestry, ports, and agriculture sectors across four continents. He led development of the Greater Manchester Natural Capital investment plan in 2019. He has managed over £5million worth of environmental policy research and analysis in the UK, including developing national ecosystem accounts for the UK, EU and Caribbean Countries; biodiversity net gain market analysis; and on marine management.
He is also a member of advisory panels for the Capitals Coalition and Peatland Code, was a Director of the Aldersgate Group for 10 years, and was a member of the ICAEW Sustainability Committee for 8 years. Ian was previously head of economics for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, whom he joined in April 2000.
Ian holds an MSc in European Environmental Regulation and Policy from Lancaster University, and an MA in Economics from the University of St Andrews.
