Mark is a Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland) and Environmental Economist with a decade of experience. He joined eftec in September 2022.
Mark’s work includes the generation and use of natural capital valuation evidence in the domestic and international conservation policy cycle (from rationale and appraisal to monitoring and evaluation). He has extensive recent experience in modelling competing demands for land and sea in England and Scotland, measuring changes in welfare from nature-based solutions, quantifying the costs and benefits of conservation policy, and analysing innovative nature market mechanisms and investment opportunities (e.g., Biodiversity Net Gain, Marine Net Gain, Woodland Carbon Code, Peatland Code).
His work leverages market and non-market valuation approaches, and he has experience leading primary valuation research projects to support policy in the marine conservation and improving the transparency of how business information is communicated.
In the international space, he has recently advised on the development and use of investor natural capital accounts in the USA, and has led large evidence reviews to support economic analysis of the actions required to deliver the targets under Multilateral Environmental Agreements (Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework; Ramsar Convention).
Mark holds an MSc in Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment from University College London, and a BSc in Economics from the University of Nottingham. He is also proficient in Spanish.
