Mark is a Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland) and Environmental Economist with a decade of experience. he joined the eftec core team in September 2022.
Mark's work focusses on the integration of the natural capital approach into UK policy, in particular primary valuation research in the marine and business regulation sectors. He models nature markets (intertidal biodiversity and marine net gain), and uses valuation evidence to support the appraisal of domestic and overseas investment decisions. He has also led international work advising on the development and use of investor natural capital accounts in the USA, technical economics aspects of Target 2 and Target 18 of the Kunming-Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework, and natural capital investment in the Turks and Caicos Islands and Blue Belt Overseas Territories.
Mark holds an MSc in Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment from University College London, and a BSc in Economics from the University of Nottingham. Prior to joining eftec, Mark worked at the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), advising on multilateral environmental agreements and initiatives, including the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, IPBES, and the Ramsar Convention, and the economics of nature-based solutions. He is also proficient in Spanish.
